A Daytrip to Salisbury, NC.

Day Tripping:
Day tripping is like having a mini-vacation, and the last best thing about it, is that it allows one to visit areas close to home, which is a win-win in my book. It’s the best way to discover new places, learn the history, enjoy the amenities, and broaden one’s perspective.
One thing about North Carolina is that it’s filled with smaller, older towns that have a quaint, cozy welcome feel, and Salisbury was no different.
Our day trip last month was to Salisbury, North Carolina, and it was a fun-filled day of shopping, eating and enjoying cookies, lunch, and ice cream. I think day tripping is as much about the sights, the food, and the history. We were fortunate to have our friend join us for this day trip, making it even better.
The shop owners were all friendly, even telling us places to shop and restaurants we might want to try. This is what makes small towns great – the friendly atmosphere!

Small, Quaint Towns:
There is something about small towns that make me happy. That’s because it reminds me of the small town where I grew up. It’s a place where one never gets lost; there is always a familiar face right around the corner, and it’s a place that promotes family values.
The downtown area of Salisbury is about three to four blocks long, making it easy to duck into shops to browse and admire all the goodies. And there is always something on my I must get!

What to Eat:
We didn’t cut back on the food. No siree! Our first stop at a bakery, enticing us with heavenly aromas had me buying two cookies, chocolate chip for Mr. H&Q and a macadamia white chocolate chip for myself.

We found a quaint cafe that had the best food – oh my! For lunch, I had a salad with fried goat cheese, raspberries, candied pecans, and a raspberry vinaigrette that was to die for. I was so taken with my own lunch that I have no idea what Mr. H&Q or Barbara ordered. So yummy!

The ice cream shop boasted many flavors, which means smiles, happy faces, and happy taste buds that delight everyone. I chose coffee-flavored ice cream, but there were so many other flavor temptations….

Salisbury History:
It’s role in the Civil War and early American history is what Salisbury is well know for. Cornwallis’ men were buried in 1781 at the Chestnut Hill Cemetery which is located in the downtown vicinity. Some of the graves date back well over a hundred years. It’s so rich in history.

The Bell Tower Green Park is a paradise with walkways meandering throughout the park encouraging one to explore. We loved the chiming of the bells from the church that buts up to the park. The bells toll for Ukraine.

Wineries, museums, walking trails and more surround this quaint town. It’s a place we’ll revisit in the future and one you might consider for your next day trip.
