Life on the Road Series 2021

When I first started this blog, I wanted to revisit our time traveling the US, after selling our home in Southern California.
We had been traveling for some time and enjoyed the sense of seeing new places, camping in places in our home away from home. Initially, our trips would last anywhere from a few days to over a week. Then, as time elapsed, those trips became longer and longer. One of the last ones was three months long. We didn’t complete that particular trip because our refrigerator broke down, and our neighbor, who was watching our house, discovered it and called us immediately. We lost everything in our freezer.
So, when we were offered a fair market price for selling the house, we said, “Yes.” It was our chance to make our dream a reality, seeing more of the US.
As I mentioned, we began traveling before selling, but I’ll start with “life on the road” after we sold the house.

Living the good life – well, there are always hitches to that, and I wouldn’t want you to believe otherwise. Life is life, and that means it sometimes comes with the good, the bad, and the ugly.
We first arrived at the Rancho California RV Resort on July 1 for a month-long stay to finalize the move-out process and make necessary appointments before starting our journey, “Life on the Road.”
During this time, we discovered the resort as a nice place to stay, close enough to town that we could make the necessary connections for all the paperwork required not only to move, but to endorse a nomadic lifestyle. There’s more involved than one would think.

First, you still need to pay some monthly bills, such as your cell phone service. Then there’s the matter of taxes, income taxes, owning a business, etc. There are services for this, and the one we joined is called Escapees. There are now more businesses offering this kind of service to choose from than when we were traveling full-time.
The Rancho California RV Resort is a luxurious place to stay, where the lots are privately owned. When not in use, they can rent out their spaces. Here are some pictures of the lot we stayed in, which was pleasant and rewarding, especially with a pond at our back door (had we had a back door), and a beautiful outdoor kitchen!

While staying there, we enjoyed visiting Ricardo Breceda’s Art Gallery, where the sculptures are big, powerful, and stunning.

While staying there for the month, we were able to snag time with a good friend, Rose, who used to live in our neighborhood before moving. We had a great evening and a good meal.

One morning, we breakfasted at a local restaurant, the Stagecoach Inn, that we’d never been to before. It’s always a plus when we can take the dogs with us and eat al fresco – outdoor dining, you can’t beat it!
