Last week, we traveled further east than Statesville, North Carolina.  We moved here hoping to travel the northeast and eventually wander to the coastline to discover campgrounds we hope to frequent.

We actually camped in High Point at a great little campground called Oak Hollow.  We had a great view of the lake, and while the temperatures dipped the first night, it was still a nice getaway.

While there, we ventured into High Point to seek out the World’s Largest Chest of Drawers.  We even got a designer coffee from Starbucks and sat patio side underneath the dresser!  Yes, it’s that big and tall!

However, it was not the chest of drawers I’d seen pictured on Google maps.  We did find it, and it’s there to commemorate High Point’s role as a center of furniture manufacturing.  Still impressive, and I’m so glad we got to see it.

The next day, after scrolling through Facebook and Google Maps, I discovered there is a troll in High Point.  The story behind these trolls is below.

Little Sally Troll is a giant sculpture created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo, located in High Point, NC. She is made of reclaimed wood, with many pieces connected to High Point’s furniture-making history, and is part of a larger “Grandmother Tree” story that spans several other troll sculptures across North Carolina.

The Danish artist Thomas Dambo creates giant trolls from recycled materials to promote sustainability and encourage people to connect with nature. These sculptures are often hidden in natural settings, and each troll has a unique story, with clues sometimes provided to help people find them. The trolls symbolize nature and convey the message “waste no more,” showing how discarded items can be transformed into something beautiful and meaningful.

We visited Little Sally and were surprised by the number of people who had taken time on a Wednesday in November to seek out this giant troll.  Taking pictures was on everyone’s list, but just looking at this art has me wanting to find as many giant trolls as possible in the United States.

Shhhh!  There are four or five trolls in Raleigh – and we plan to find them on future trips.

I sometimes love Google Maps! When traveling, it’s a great resource for finding anything from restaurants to attractions. After visiting Little Sally, we wanted to see if we could find any more attractions worth seeing while in the area. Using my map app, I found the World’s Largest Duncan Phyfe Chair.
