80th Anniversary of World War II (Dad)

The 80th anniversary of the end of World War II falls on September 2, 2025, which marks 80 years since the unconditional surrender of Japan and the final cessation of global hostilities in 1945. Events commemorating this milestone will occur throughout the year.

In addition, specific events planned to honor veterans are taking place in various places throughout the US. Cue, enter my dad as one of those World War II vets. At 101 (today), he is one of the few that is being honored.

I think this country has taken a huge step back when it comes to honoring our military. In fact, I think many don’t even realize the importance of having those men and women who serve as they protect YOUR and MY freedoms. Not only so that we can have freedom of speech, but also to protect us from our enemies. Without the service and sacrifice of the individuals, the US would probably cease to exist.

In the Bakersfield area, there were only two vets from World War II. How wonderful for the recognition both of these men received. Not only did they step up and serve this country for later generations, but they are strong and capable men who should be given the respect they’re due.

I’m very proud of all our vets, no matter their age or in which war they served. Remember, many never came home, and many others have suffered the consequences of war and ultimately died long afterward. It’s a chance to preserve the freedoms you enjoy now.
