It’s that time again. Spooky goblins, scary monsters, and wicked witches! Nah – it’s basically candy time and walking til your feet are tired and sore. There is more…

It’s officially holiday season, the countdown to Christmas with another holiday thrown in – yep, Thanksgiving. But before we move to Thanksgiving, I’d like to double back to Halloween.

This year, Halloween was a success! Once again, we decided to create a maze for the kids. In past years, we created mazes while living in California, and though it was a lot of work, it was so worth it to hear the excitement from the kids who went through, and their parents.

Build it and they will come… So, I approached hubby and told him that I wanted to do another maze. We had sold everything in California, which meant starting over from scratch. It’s a beginning, but to hear the laughter and screams from the children – well worth the effort, once again.

Most Asked Questions about the Maze

It took approximately three weeks to complete the maze, with no work being done the last few days before Halloween.

We laid the floor first using tape and more or less winged the pathway to include alcoves or cubbies to place animations and other decor.

Using the taped pathway, we hung a cord, creating a grid from the ceiling using hooks in the walls to hold the ends of the cord to align with the vertical and horizontal taped pathways.

Once the grid was in place, we cut and hung plastic from the grid, creating the walls.

Once the walls were in place, we added decor and animation to the alcoves. We utilized the bottom of the plastic that was cut from the original sheets to create curtains. Strips were cut, and bugs, spiders, or snakes were drawn on using markers.

We purchased two rolls of plastic from a home improvement store. We didn’t use all of the second roll.

Too much! We purchased several different types of tape when we had problems with the tape sticking. I believe we still have at least two rolls left.

We’re not sure. But we at least have hooks in the walls and supplies we purchased to make next year easier, if we do.

Yes, we’ve built several mazes when we lived in California. We had a lot of animations and Halloween decor built up from previous years.
