Supplies needed:

  • Used book approximately 4 1/4″ W x 7″ L
  • Scissors
  • Template
  • Glue gun/glue or glue stick
  • Pen or pencil
  • Hole punch
  • Cording or yarn (or personal choice)

Directions:

1: Print the template below. Cut out the triangle template and place it on a page (or several pages) in the book. Be sure there is text from the top of the page to the bottom. Place the triangle so its bottom is at the top of the page to ensure that once the shapes are cut from the book, thetext will be right side up.

2: Trace around the triangle. Using a pen or pencil, trace around the triangle.

3: Cut out the triangles. Cut the triangles out, cutting through one or several pages at once. You’ll need twelve triangles. Cut additional triangles in case you need them.

4: Print the letters. Using the template below, print the letters to spell out Thanksgiving.

5: Cut the letters. Cut each of the letters out.

6: Place letters on each triangle. In my example, I counted 5 lines of text down from the top, and using a pen, placed a dot for reference. Place the letter on the triangle.

7: Glue a letter to each triangle. Ensure the letters are where you want them, then glue them to a triangle using either a glue gun or glue stick.

8: Punch holes. Using a hole punch, punch two holes near the top, closer to each side of the triangle, to string the banner.

9: String the banner. Using cording or yarn (or your personal preference), run the cord through the holes. In my banner, I preferred the yarn to run behind the top of each triangle. Depending on what you prefer, it can be run across the top or behind the top of each triangle. Once the triangles are strung, add a dot of glue to the center of the cord or yarn to hold the triangles in place to prevent slippage.

10: Add a loop to each end of the cord. Create a loop to hold the banner. I simply did this by holding up a loop and tying it in place.

Options:

The letters can be colored in using a marker or crayon, if preferred. Bows can be placed between triangles either using ribbon, yarn, or cording.
