Troll Hunting at the Asheville Arboretum

Thomas Dambo is well-known for his towering troll sculptures, made from salvaged materials such as fallen branches and wooden pallets. His work has delighted millions across Europe and parts of North America.

But Trolls: A Field Study is a brand-new collection, and Asheville was the first place in the U.S. to host these never-before-seen creations.

Each troll has a distinct personality and a shared mission: to understand the small, fascinating lives of humans.

On the last day of the exhibit, we were finally able to make the trip to see these smaller creatures that are captivating people worldwide. From what I recall, these trolls are now going on exhibit in California.

We couldn’t have picked a more beautiful day to visit. Our first time visiting the Asheville Arboretum and hopefully, not our last.

Hasse was such fun, bending over to see between his legs, mimicking Hasse.

The place was packed, and it was fun watching people take interesting pictures of each troll, some with their children tucked underneath, or caught in the net, or even turned over and looking through their legs!

I only wished we had packed a picnic, but ultimately we enjoyed a Mexican feast after leaving the park!
